OPEN REGISTRATION | Workshop “Living with Tourism: Paradoxes, Empowerment and Future Directions”

The International Online Workshop Living with Tourism: Paradoxes, Empowerment and Future Directions, to be held on 24–25 September 2020 on Zoom Colibri Pro platform, is the opening official event of the PhD Programme in Economics and Organizational Sociology (ISEG – Universidade de Lisboa) for the academic year 2020/2021.
The workshop presents interdisciplinary and empirical research that reflects upon the economic, social and cultural impacts of “living with tourism”. It also seeks to contribute to a broader discussion of the future directions of tourism in line with the unprecedented worldwide changes caused by COVID-19 pandemic.

PROGRAM

The workshop will be divided into thematic sessions with accepted papers and plenary sessions conducted by the keynote speakers Valerio Simoni (Graduate Institute Geneva, Switzerland) and Xerardo Pereiro (UTAD, Portugal).

The Workshop Scientific Committee has accepted paper proposals from 13 different countries. These will be incorporated into six panels sessions addressing the following topics:

1 – COVID-19 pandemic impacts on future tourism;
2 – Empowerment and community-based tourism practices;
3 – Tourism governance, education and sense of place;
4 – Heritage, cultural policies and local tourism development;
5 – Ethics, sustainability and innovative tourism;
6 – Social change and new modes of tourism management.

The Workshop Closing Ceremony will be held by Rita Marques, the Secretary of State for Tourism of the Government of Portugal, on the 25th at 15:30 (GMT).
