Today and tomorrow (4 and 5 July 2019), the Project “AFRO-PORT: Afrodescendence in Portugal: Sociabilities, Representations and Sociopolitical and Cultural Dynamics. A Study in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area” [FCT/PTDC/SOC-ANT /30651/2017], coordinated by our researcher Iolanda Évora (CEsA/CSG/ ISEG-ULisboa) and Inocência Mata (FLUL-ULisboa), with institutional support by CEsA/CSG/ISEG, presents the Panel “People of African Descent: Sociabilities, Representations, and Sociopolitical and Cultural Dynamics” (5.10) at the 7th Biannual Conference of the Afroeuropeans Network: “Black In/Visibilities Contested”.

The 7th Biannual Conference of the Afroeuropeans Network: “”Black In/Visibilities Contested””, held in Lisbon (ISCTE – IUL), July 4 to 6, is an important platform for the production of knowledge in the areas of transdisciplinary research on racism, black cultures and identities in Europe. The conference addresses not only the relations of domination and modes of racial exclusion, but is mainly related to the continual contestations and resistances that have sustained these visions.

The Panel “People of African Descent: Sociabilities, Representations, and Sociopolitical and Cultural Dynamics” focuses on the dynamics of the Afro-descendant population in Portugal (and not only), lifestyles, sociabilities, discursive practices, urban centralities.
