Short biography:
Economist with doctorate in agrarian economics and rural sociology at the University of Córdoba, Spain (1993). Postdoctoral studies in the area of Regional Development (1988) and Aggregation (2001) at the Technical University of Lisbon. Full Professor since 2005. Between 1976 and 1987, he has held executive and technical positions in central and local organizations of the Mozambican Ministry of Agriculture and State enterprises. He has been a professor and researcher since 1987, in the areas of economic and regional development, agrarian economy and rural sociology. It has more than 200 works published in several countries and languages between books, articles in scientific journals, chapters of books, magazines and newspapers of opinion in the areas of formation. It has 27 books published individually or in co-authorship. It has works in 5 languages and publications in eight countries. He is invited to teach in master's and doctorate degrees at several universities, to advise theses and as a lecturer at international conferences and in some countries. He is currently the Scientific Director of the Higher and Higher Studies and Business School and a lecturer at the Polytechnic University. He is director and researcher of the Rural Environment Observatory. He is a guest researcher at the Center for African, Asian and Latin American Studies at the Universidade de Lisboa. Sporadically it carries out national and international consultancies, as long as the subjects are related to the professional interest. He reconciles its professional activity with an intense activism of citizenship, conquest of spaces of freedom, in defense of the rights and values of ethics, transparency, democracy and justice.
