Applications for the 4th edition of the International Prize for Local Development are open.
The documentation must be presented in English, French, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish.
For the young researchers the prize offers a scholarship of up to 2 thousand euros. The prize is divided into four main sections and can compete:

– Researchers and/or specialists who have produced a relevant essay published in the last three years;
– Young researchers who have completed and defended the doctoral thesis in the last three years;
– Territories that stand out for innovative actions, essential for their economic and social transformation;
– Companies, individuals or associates that lead their way in a logic of territorial responsibility.

Applications will run until April 15, 2017. The prize is jointly organized by the Centro de Estudos Sociais (CES), Universidade de Coimbra, Centro de Investigação sobre o Espaço e as Organizações (CIEO), Universidade do Algarve & Centro de Investigação sobre a Internacionalização das Economias Locais (CRIEL), Universidade de Insubria.

The discussion on the social and economic challenges facing the regions of the European Union underlines the need for a careful look at the specificity of the territories. The International Prize for Local Development is an original idea of Professor Gioacchino Garofoli of the Universidade de Insubria (Italy), which aims to distinguish research works and successful initiatives to promote and support local and territorial development whose relevance deserves international recognition. The goal is to encourage academics, specialists, young researchers, public institutions, private actors and companies to increase their attention to territorial development policies, instruments and processes of analysis and to improve the diagnostic capacity, comparing them internationally.

The award ceremony is an integral part of the International Conference on Local Development. This event is held every three years and had its first edition in 2007. This year, the 4th edition of the conference and the delivery of the prize, will take place in the second half of May 2017, at the Universidade do Algarve (Faro).
