The paper “Collateral Value and Entrepreneurship: Evidence from a Property Tax Reform” (2019), co-authored by our researcher Ana Venâncio (CSG, ISEG) with Miguel Ferreira and João Pereira dos Santos (from the NOVA School of Business and Economics ), was one of the three articles awarded by the Office of Strategy and Studies (GEE) of the Ministry of Economy and the Portuguese Association of Insurance Companies (APS) presented at the Portuguese Economy Savings and Finance Conference.
The article focuses on the role of property taxes on business activity, using an experiment that unexpectedly reduced the upper limit of the Portuguese property tax rate for urban properties in 2008.
